Why buy a refurbished mini PC?

A mini PC gives you a full Windows business desktop in a case about the size of a hardback book. It sits on a desk, mounts behind a monitor with a VESA bracket, runs almost silently and uses a fraction of the power of a tower, which also makes it easy to keep running on a small UPS during load shedding. Every mini PC on this page is an ex-corporate HP, Lenovo or Dell, tested, securely wiped and cleaned, with genuine Microsoft Windows Professional and a 1-year warranty. Need a full-size desktop, tower or all-in-one instead? Browse our full range of refurbished computers.

What to look for

  • An Intel Core i5 of the 6th generation or newer for everyday office work; a Core i3 is fine for browsing, point of sale and reception
  • 8GB of RAM as a minimum, 16GB if you keep many browser tabs and programs open
  • An SSD rather than a hard drive, so it starts and opens files quickly
  • A thin client, such as the Dell Wyse 5070, only if your company connects to remote or virtual desktops

Which mini PC is right for you?

Every big business PC brand makes a mini version of its office desktop. They use the same processors and run the same Windows as the full-size models, in a case that fits behind a monitor. These are the families you will find on this page.

HP EliteDesk and ProDesk Mini

HP's 1 litre business PCs. The EliteDesk 800 Mini is the premium model, the ProDesk 600 and 400 Mini the everyday versions. All can be mounted behind a monitor with a VESA bracket.

Refurbished mini PCs: frequently asked questions

What is a mini PC?

A mini PC is a full Windows desktop computer in a very small case, usually about one litre, roughly the size of a hardback book. It uses laptop-style parts, so it is quiet and uses far less power than a tower, but it runs the same Windows and Office as any other office PC.

Is a refurbished mini PC good enough for office work?

Yes. A mini PC with an Intel Core i5 of the 6th generation or newer, 8GB of RAM and an SSD handles Office, email, browsing, accounting software and video calls comfortably. Companies deploy them in large numbers for exactly that work, which is why so many come off lease.

Can I mount a mini PC behind a monitor?

Business mini PCs have VESA mounting points, so with a VESA bracket they fit behind any monitor with a standard 75mm or 100mm mount. That makes them popular for reception desks, point of sale and tight office spaces.

What is the difference between a mini PC and a thin client?

A mini PC is a complete computer that runs programs itself. A thin client, such as the Dell Wyse 5070, is a low-power device mainly designed to connect to a remote desktop or server, where the programs actually run. Choose a thin client if your company uses Citrix, VMware, RDP or Azure Virtual Desktop; otherwise choose a mini PC.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage in a mini PC?

Usually, yes. Business mini PCs take standard laptop memory and an M.2 or 2.5 inch SSD. Ask us when you order and we can quote a RAM or SSD upgrade before it ships.

How much power does a mini PC use?

Much less than a tower. Most business mini PCs run from a 65W laptop-style power adapter and draw well under that during office work, which also makes them easy to keep running on a small UPS or inverter during load shedding.

Tell us how many you need and what they must run. Mini PCs come off lease in matched batches, so we can often supply identical units, upgraded to your spec.
