SSDs: frequently asked questions
Which SSD fits my laptop or PC?
Most laptops and desktops from before about 2017 take a 2.5" SATA SSD. Many newer machines have an M.2 slot, which may take a faster NVMe SSD. Send us your model and we will confirm which fits.
Is an SSD worth it in an old computer?
Usually yes. An SSD makes start-up, opening programs and searching files several times faster than a hard drive, even in an older PC.
What is a portable SSD?
A portable SSD is an external drive that plugs in by USB. It is much faster and tougher than a portable hard drive, which makes it good for backups and moving large files.
