Refurbished computers for school labs and classrooms

School budgets have to cover more learners every year. Refurbished business desktops let a school equip a full computer lab for much less than new machines, without falling back on cheap consumer PCs that are not built for daily use. Every computer on this page is an ex-corporate HP, Dell or Lenovo under R4 000 ex VAT, tested, securely wiped and graded, with genuine Microsoft Windows Professional and a 1-year warranty.

Planning a computer lab

  • Buy matched machines. Identical computers let your IT person build one Windows image with the lab software and load it onto every desk.
  • Choose an SSD. Machines with an SSD start in seconds, which matters when a class logs on at the start of every lesson.
  • Use Windows Professional. Pro can join a school domain or a cloud management service, so logins and settings are controlled centrally.
  • Add screens and peripherals. Pair each computer with a refurbished monitor, keyboard and mouse.
  • Plan for power cuts. Small form factor desktops and mini PCs draw less power than towers, which makes backup power for a lab easier to size.

Desktops for labs, laptops for people

Desktops suit labs and libraries because they stay on the desk and are cheaper per seat. Teachers and learners who need a machine they can take home are better served by a laptop: see our student laptops for light, tough business laptops, and our guide to the best laptops for students.

Choosing computers for a school

Different rooms in a school need different machines. These are the setups we supply most often to schools and colleges.

Computer labs

Rows of identical small form factor desktops or mini PCs, so one Windows image and one set of lab software can be loaded onto every machine. A Core i3 or Core i5 with 8GB of RAM and an SSD handles CAT, IT, typing and online assessments.

Libraries and media centres

Mini PCs mounted behind monitors or compact all-in-ones keep counters tidy and are harder to knock over or walk off with. Ideal for catalogue searches, research and printing stations.

Admin, finance and staff rooms

Office staff running a school management system, accounting software and Microsoft 365 need a little more: a Core i5 of the 8th generation or newer with 8GB to 16GB of RAM and an SSD.

Computers for schools: frequently asked questions

Are refurbished computers good for school computer labs?

Yes. Ex-corporate business desktops are built to run all day for years, which suits a lab used by class after class. Ours are tested, securely wiped and graded, run genuine Windows Professional and carry a 1-year warranty, at a fraction of the price of new machines.

What specs does a school computer lab need?

For CAT, IT, typing, research and online assessments, a Core i3 or Core i5 of the 6th generation or newer with 8GB of RAM and an SSD is enough. Choose an SSD over a hard drive so machines start quickly at the beginning of each lesson.

Why buy identical computers for a lab?

Identical machines let your IT person build one Windows image with all the lab software and copy it to every computer. Drivers, spares and troubleshooting are the same on every desk, which keeps support simple and lessons running.

Do the computers come with Windows?

Yes. Every computer ships with genuine, activated Microsoft Windows Professional. Pro can join a school domain or a cloud management service, so you can control logins and settings across the lab.

Can schools, NGOs and sponsors order in bulk?

Yes. We supply schools, colleges, training centres, NGOs and corporate sponsors of school projects with matched batches, a formal quote and a VAT invoice. Tell us how many machines you need and what they must run.

Do you also supply laptops for teachers and learners?

Yes. See our student laptops for light, tough business laptops suitable for teachers and learners, and contact us for matched laptop batches for a class or school.

Tell us how many machines you need, the software learners use and your budget. We will quote matched computers and monitors, prepared with Windows Professional and delivered to your school anywhere in South Africa.
